RESORT INFO - HOW TO GET HERE

Serre Chevalier isn’t the easiest of ski resorts to get to.

If coming by plane the closest airport is in Italy at Turin, other airports serving the ski resort are Lyon,
Marseille, Grenoble and Geneva.
If coming by car it’s best to be sure
that the mountain passes are open.
If coming by train you’ll need to check connection times.
Here’s the information that’ll help you plan your journey.

BY CAR
  • Coming from the north of France :
    • Motorway until Grenoble, then take the RN 91 passing over the “Col du Lautaret” mountain pass.
  • Coming from Italy :
    • Motorway until Oulx (35km from Briançon) then pass over the “Col de Montgenèvre” mountain pass and take the RN 94.
  • Coming from the south of France:
    • Motorway until la Saulce, then Tallard, Embrun, Briançon by the RN 94.

BY TRAIN
  • Paris-Lyon-Briançon, sleeper carriages 1st and 2nd class, overnight sleeper train Paris-Briançon.
  • Paris-Valence-Briançon. High speed from Paris-Valence and then normal train Valence-Briançon.
  • Daily auto-trains (put your car on the train and relax) during peak season

BY PLANE

 

DIRECTIONS FROM TURIN AIRPORT TO SERRE CHEVALIER SKI RESORT

(the toll prices are as of 05 May 2001)

  1. Leaving the airport you’ll find yourself on a dual carriageway.
    Take exit indicated “autostrade - tangenziale” (motorway).
    You need to take the Frejus direction (NOT Milan) on this motorway.
  2. Stay on this motorway,
    first toll (0.80 euros) does not accept credit cards.
    second toll (3.10 euros).
    you’ll go through many tunnels, the last one being “Serre la voute”
    third toll (4.00 euros)
  3. You have to pay attention now.
    Take the exit SS24 Monginevro (Italian for Montgenèvre). This exit is also for Claviere and Sestriere.
    Once you’ve left the motorway you need to follow signs for Monginevro / Claviere.
  4. From here you’ll climb the mountain pass ‘Col de Montgenèvre’ (a few nice hairpins!). Just after the village of Claviere you’ll cross the border into France. After Montgenèvre you’ve got some more classic mountain road driving to do while you descend into Briançon (Serre Chevalier 1200).
    If you’re holidaying in Serre Chevalier 1500,1400 or 1350 follow the signs for Grenoble. You are now in the valley of Serre Chevalier.
